I ran a 5k this weekend [Mar. 30th, 2009|11:43 am]
It was my first race.

It began at 8:30 am. It was 38 degrees with winds around 20mph making the wind chill 22 degrees. It was COLD. Steve was running the 10k and I the 5k. We got there and got lined up and when the race began, we set our paces and started running.

It was SO much fun! I've never ever enjoyed running until the race. After the first mile I was warm and comfortable and the timer at the one mile marker said I was going faster than I did in training. I felt great so I kept the same pace. At mile 2 I was still feeling great. Still continuing at the same pace, I began passing people who were slowing down. At mile 3, I was still feeling great! I was beginning to get hot, but still not tired and still without labored breathing. I picked up my pace slightly so that I was running instead of jogging for the last .1 mile.

I finished in 35 minutes and 25 seconds. We all wore timer chips and my chip time was 34 minutes and 42 seconds!!

I have another 5k scheduled in 3 weeks and my only goal this time is to beat my time...even if it's only by a few seconds. :)

Steve also did quite well in his 10k!

yeah I do want to do a 10k, but it'll be another 10 weeks (maybe longer) till I'm up to that distance. My knee is a bit wonky and I have to baby it.

Right now I'm only running about 12 miles a week and I don't "love" running yet. I loved it during the race, but I still don't love it during training. hehe
